HOSPICE OF THE CHESAPEAKE -- PATIENT CARE AND FAMILY SUPPORT

Hospice of the Chesapeake is currently seeking dedicated, compassionate Residential Care Volunteers.

Our hospice volunteers bring companionship into the lives of patients and families during a time when many loved ones do not know how to deal with their own emotions. Although nothing more can be done to cure the patient, there is no limit to what can be done to make them as comfortable as possible, and to provide their family with the help and support they need during this difficult time.

As a patient care volunteer, you will have the opportunity to talk with your patient about their life, engage with them in similar interests and be an incredible source of support as they navigate through their end-of life journey of life. Volunteer support comes in all shapes and forms, with each patient and family having their own, unique needs.

Common volunteer activities include but are not limited to:
*Reading to patients and reminiscing about past times
*Playing games and visiting patients at their bedside/home
*Providing relief for a caregiver
*Transporting patients who live alone to and from doctors’ appointments or to other locations for errands
*Assisting with light housekeeping, yard maintenance, meal preparation, or gardening
*Joining in one of our specialized patient care teams, such as Vigil, Healing Arts, or Veteran to Veteran

Please do keep in mind that as a Residential Care Volunteer you will be going directly into the homes of our patients. Once a volunteer request has been placed for one of our patients, our Volunteer Coordinator will reach out to you, proposing potential opportunities in your local area and from there, it will be your decision whether you choose to accept or deny any of the requests. You will never be forced into a home or situation that is not of your choosing.

The only thing we ask from you in return is to commit to at least a 6 hour per month schedule and to give the patient and their family the respect and attention they deserve.

If you are interested, please to provide a brief statement of your qualifications and relevant background for this volunteer opportunity.

Choose to make a difference just by being you.
